Emily McPherson’s Top 5 Favorite Books
1. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
First off, this an impossible list. I have a lot of favorite books, but I’ve narrowed it down to five of the 20 tied for first place. The Cruel Prince is definitely a favorite (I love a good faerie story), but I should include the full Folk of the Air trilogy since they’re all amazing. Jude is a wonderful and interesting character, and her journey throughout the whole series is one that makes you read an entire book in one sitting. These books are seriously hard to put down.
2. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
Lara Jean is one relatable AF character. She’s pretty awkward, and she makes some really dumb choices, and I relate to that. I also love the relationship between the three sisters. I didn’t grow up with sisters of my own, and books like this always make me wish I did (and simultaneously grateful I didn’t). It’s an easy, fun read, and I love it!
3. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller
Okay, okay. I’m kind of cheating with this one. At the time of writing this list, I haven’t actually finished the book yet. I’m on… (flips to bookmark) chapter 18! But I am obsessed! I was drawn to this book after seeing the “Slytherin romance” review, and from the very first line, I was hooked. Here’s hoping the ending doesn’t totally blow.
4. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
The mystery, the capstone project angle, the twists and turns, THE REVEAL! I’ve never wanted to solve a mystery so badly!
5. Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak
I read this one so fast. I love a good creep-fest, and the pictures in this book were exactly what I wanted in that regard. I would flip through the pages and find the next picture (careful not to actually see the full page) so I could keep a mental countdown till the next one. I loved it!

Inspired by traditional Irish Mythology, Mother of the River tells the story of a 17 year old girl in search of her missing mother when she stumbles upon a forgotten legend.
Ianthe was only six years old when her mother vanished and the strange statue appeared in the river near her home. Now, eleven years later, the statue stands as a memorial and a place where Ianthe often visits to tell her mother about her life. But when an old acquaintance returns to town and suggests the statue isn’t just a statue, the presence of a mythical creature comes into question, and Ianthe begins to wonder what really happened all those years ago.
With her best friend Fintan by her side, Ianthe searches for a lost legend and discovers fantastical dangers, family secrets, and the magic of Ireland. But finding the myth may not be enough to mend the past. And finding the truth just
may threaten her future.
May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been, the foresight to know where you are going, and the insight to know when you have gone too far- Irish proverb
